According to article 9 of the IELB bylaws, the board has the following responsibilities: I. to enact the resolutions of the national convention; II. to establish annual and long-range goals for the activities and work in the IELB, reporting them to the national officers and receiving the report of their accountability afterward; III. To act as an instrument of coordination, supervision, and decision-making in the work of the national officers, the councils, and the commissions; IV. To select the councils and the commissions as described by these bylaws and, if necessary, other work groups, as well as to approve their regulations, receive reports, and evaluate their annual activity; V. To make decisions as the national conventions expressly require in the intervals between conventions; VI. To submit medium and long-range budgets, strategies, plans, and programs to the national convention; VII. To determine salaries and benefits in the IELB; VIII. To determine the status of the reports of the Commission on Theology and Church Relations (CTCR) to be referred to the National Convention; IX. To authorize the creation and fulfillment of new administrative duties as requested by the national officers; X. To receive and analyze reports of the auxiliary organizations of the IELB; XI. To declare the suspension of the national officers in the cases outlined in article 14 and select substitutes according to article 15; XII. To examine and make declarations regarding the budget and annual balance of the IELB, as well as of all of the organs of the IELB, whether administrative or not; XIII. To recognize national auxiliary organizations according to article 116; XIV. To ratify the arrangements made by the national officers according to article 12, II, III and X. XV. To accept, on the recommendation of the Juridical Commission, the affiliation of workers and congregations with the IELB; XVI. To define parameters and criteria for the periodic evaluation of the work of church workers and congregations. The Board of Directors of the IELB is composed as follows: President and Secretary a) voting members: President of the IELB, district counselors and leaders, President of the administrative council of the theological faculty, Presidents of the auxiliary organizations: Lutheran Laymen’s League of Brazil, League of Lutheran Serving Women of Brazil, Evangelical Lutheran Youth of Brazil. b) Advising members: IELB officers (except for the president of the IELB who is a voting member ex-officio), director of the theological faculty, Christ to all the nations, national association of Lutheran schools. |
